Going Forward
For the first time since 1972, government is recognizing recognized the role of visas in physically building and sustaining Canada The staffing needs of the trade and low skills sectors have been front and centre as both government and corporate Canada deals with the economy. Government is getting a grip on undocumented workers. Government has done the right thing by recognizing the economic benefits of refugees & displaced persons. Only time will tell if the recent flood of low wage temporary workers and defacto worker students is good public policy. The European experience is that low wage visa floods sustain neither the economy nor pension funds. They appear to be a social engineering low wage economy vehicle. Only time will tell if government will protect the integrity of its visa programs by coming down hard on trafficking & visa fraud. Without integrity, the system will once again collapse. As government goes forward with its new focus on building and sustaining infrastructure, Worker Canada will not change its direction. • We will continue to process & lobby for proven, undocumented trades workers. • We will continue to process & lobby for qualified temporary workers. • We will continue to process and lobby for economically viable persons at risk. • We will continue to advocate against trafficking, corruption & social /economic engineering through visas.
